Pelican does not carry it and I think it's unique to the 89 Carrera.

It screws into a connector on the crankcase breather. Mine is broken and my engine electric fan does not work...probably related.

Can the braintrust here please tell me what it is, how I get a new one and will it make the fan not work.

Bracket for attaching a chain to lift engine.

It is a temperature switch (one terminal) or a thermo valve (two terminals). Look it up in the Porsche parts catalog for the 87-89 Carrera. You can download the catalog as a PDF from PMNA's website.

At least that is the best I can do. You circled the lifting hook, but that has nothing to do with electricity. Maybe a nice small arrow and a bit more description?

If your diagram is meant to illustrate the temp switch on the breather cover, the part number for the temp switch is 930 606 118 00
The same switch is used for the electric fan on the front mounted oil cooler.
Still available from the dealer and other sources

yep, temp switch. The one on there, the wire screws on. Have not seen one like that. Will try the part number provided.

What does the wire / Temp switch do? My mechanic said I don't really need it.

Controls turning on the engine mounted blower at higher engine temperatures (>118C if I recall)

Thanks Todd and everyone. As suspected, that's why the fan has not been working. Looks difficult to get to in order to replace.

Porsche should make access ports through the shelf or behind the rear seats.

They get broken when people.replace the main fuel line with the engine in the car..

Yep, that's exactly what happened. Replaced all the fuel lines in the engine compartment. Noticed it was broken when doing the clutch a month or two later. Should have waited for the part but was inpatient to get the car back together.

Just an FYI but you really should put something like rags in the intake ports to stop anything from accidentally falling in there.
