Engine Compartment Question
 

In my engine compartment, it doesn't seem to have the cover that goes over the electrical chassis on the left side. I suspect that it should be there, but am not sure. Does anyone know where I might get one? Thanks.

list your request for one in the classified section of this BBS...also check the web for "Porsche Dismantlers" and they would probably have one as well. LA Porsche and 20th ST are a couple...not sure of their web address.

I don't remember ever having a cover on my 1974 car.

My car does not have one, and I believe that it never did. I think that the cover was only used in later years.

My '74 did not have a cover and I had to replace the PermaTune CD unit and so I ordered the cover (engine relay cover, I believe) and the two wingnuts and washers to hold the cover on from PelicanParts last July. I believe the cover keeps water and dust off the rear electrical shelf and covers a part of the PermaTune CD unit. I would definitely recommend the cover as it can't be good to have fuses, relays, and other electrical parts "exposed" to the elements. Just my .02 worth, but what do I know?

My 74 had the cover, the PO(s) of your Porsche must have taken everthing off before they sold you the car.

Was the car running as bad then as it is now? Hope you got a good price for it

In the pic of your '74 Carrera, where does the red wire with white stripes go to? It looks like it goes from a black plug to somewhere behind the fuel accumulator/filter? Mine isn't connected to anything and it's bothering me. Thanks!

I think that my 70 may not ever have had the cover. There doesn't seem to be any tabs to mount a cover to with wingnuts or the like. I had seen pics of cars that had covers but wasn't sure of when they were added, probably later on. Thanks for all the information.

Thanks! My engine compartment wiring is really bad and I'm trying to figure out where all the wires are supposed to go. The fact that I'm colorblind doesn't help too much. I really need a good wiring diagram (I have the Haynes, Chilton, shop manual and PP online diagrams), but they don't help too much since alot of the wiring has been replaced so the colors don't match what's on the diagram.

Mine is an MFI car so ther will be differences.

Heh, Nick seems that you have the same cheap aftermarket regulator that I do. Somebody said it would not work long because the "original" has somekinda heatsink. Works just fine.

Oh yeah, on topic, -72T has the bracket where one can attach the cover.
