Dumb Question: Windows come up wet.
 

On my '88, the windows operate fine but if I'm using the car within a few days of it having gotten wet, the windows will come back up just smeared with water. I live in the rainy PNW so this is often the case.

I have to take the door panels off for some unrelated work, figured I'd see if I could address this while I'm in there, just don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

I've noticed this too. From what I was able to determine the rubber that leans on the window has something that appears to be felt on the inside, which I think absorbs water.

I noticed that after washing it will smear the window for up to a day after. Never found a solution to it, so curious what others say

Maybe the rubber strip which lays on the glass has lost its flexibility and does not wipe the glass as it comes up - sort of like dry-rotted windshield wipers.

Replacing that rubber piece is very tedious. There are a few threads on this site addressing it. May be worth your while to review them before tackling it.

My suggestion above is based on the earlier 911 models (up ton1978.) May not fully apply to yours.

@bashman That’s what I was thinking, thanks. Believe it’s called the “channel strip” or something similar.

Also check your drains at the bottom of the door seam for obstructions that may be preventing moisture from escaping.

Your car is how old?
Replace the felt strip.
