901/11 speedo gear remove/install

Hi All!
I have had some problems with my speedometer on my -71T that I just restored from a project in boxes. That being said I didn't know what now is obvious.

I have a 914 speedo gear on my transmission. It turns the wrong way...

So I need to get that one out and another in. My questions are:

1) Can I remove just #20, that way avoiding oil coming out?
2) If not as above. Can I lift the front (of the car) enough to get an angle where the oil does not reach the speedo gear point.
3) Can I remove it without removing the transmission mount #21?

Thanks for any input.

In my experience,

You will need to remove the support cross member.

You will need to drain the gear oil.

You just need to remove the grub-set screw bolt and slide out the drive gear assembly.

I would replace the entire assembly rather than just the front section. The pinion gear that drives it may be different. There are a few different versions.

Thanks, I just replaced the angle part that was missing so I'm positive I have the right pinion gear etc.

If you're referring to the hex head bolt with a small shaft at its end, the current version is 901.318.272.04.
