do you shake your oil?

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=002256

i never thought to shake my oil bottles while doing an oil change. some of these guys say it is recommended.

p.s. i found this oil board 2 days ago and have been enjoying it, there is alot of discussion of Walmart Mobil1.... etc.

they say Walmart Supertech oil filters are very good

they put synthetic oil and additives in their lawnmowers...

so, do you shake your oil?????

No, I don't. I can see no reason to shake oil. If there's something in the new oil that needs to be shaken to mix it up, I don't want it in my engine.

If oil seperates while in the can it probably seperates in your oil tank too. Imagine what that would do to your engine upon start up.

I do not shake my oil.
I would not use Walmart filters.
That site reads like the blind leading the blind (with apologies to any blind people).

I always forget; does the 'snake' part of the oil sink, or float to the surface?

Ok I read enough "snake oil" quips so I have to ask.
wtf is snake oil?
I take it it relates to dodgy fraudulent goods?

Doesn't everybody use synthetic in their lawn mower? My mower has a Honda OHV engine, is air cooled...after break-in, I switch to synthetic for it's better heat protection.

Yeah you've got the jist. . . per American Heritage Dictionary: snake oil n. 1. A worthless preparation fraudulently peddled as a cure for many ills.

This reminds me of the old wives tale about how you should never let your gas tank run down below a 1/4 tank because it will start sucking up all the dirt and sludge off the bottom of the fuel tank...

Never mind that the fuel pickup is on the BOTTOM of the tank...

Quite right, because so many of these "patent medicines" claimed to have "snake oil" as one of the cure-all medicinal ingredients.

I can remember back in the 70's some of the new synthectics, especially from a company called EON would separate. Some of the additives would settle to the bottom, you could see it! So shaking wasn't a bad idea with that product.

Another "old wives tale" was that a tank seldom filled tends to develop rust in the areas not covered with fuel (exposed to air). Hmmm. old wives tale or real fact?

Some guys need the exercise. Seriously, there is no reason to shake new oil. The only "stratification" I can think of would be if you had a bunch of fuel in the oil, such as our MFI systems cause, or if it were wintertime, and you dumped a cup of fuel in the oil to thin it for cold-weather starting. Probably more appropriate to a Cat diesel bulldozer than a 911.

Like that commercial where the older guy is shaking VIGAROSA 75 at his woman?
Then they show him shaking some kinda motor oil at his classic auto in the garage.
If it makes you feel better, shake it up. I think my car really enjoys the foreplay!
