Alternative to upper steering column bearing sans plastic??
So, I have my steering column pulled out, and want to fix this the right way. I pressed in the metal collar about 15 years ago, as the plastic part on the upper bearing had failed. All the plastic pieces made their way down to the lower bearing in the column, and wore it out as well.
What I want to know is, is there a bearing out there that DOESN'T utilize the plastic portion, and is just all metal? I don't want to put in the factory bearing with the plastic, just to have it fail all over again. I have searched the forum about this, but didn't really find anything about this. Most of them are about trying to fix it with the metal collar or the poly bushing. Anyone have any thoughts on why Porsche used the plastic anyways?? |

There was a thread a couple of years ago where someone found sealed bearings the correct size and took the column apart and replaced them. I am not the search wizard some are.
