Centercaps for Maxilites Fuchs replicas
Have a 82SC with the 15" cookie cutters, but got tempted by the 20% off sale and bought some 16" Maxilites (will give me many more choices in tires).
The question - anyone have experience with fitting centercaps into the Maxi's? Just get a rubber mallet? Machine some material off? Maybe buy some knock-offs from Amazon and see what works? Any experiences welcomed! Im keeping the original wheels, as when/if I sell (Im only the second owner) the buyer has choices. For this set-up, Im just looking for a black dot in the middle, nothing fancy. |
I cut a small V on both sides of the inner cap mating surface 180 degrees apart and bent the metal in a tad... has been on for some very spirited 100 mph plus drives and still there. Caps were on the original '83 Fuchs...

I got a pair of pliers and bent them up a bit. I put some Sika 291 (John Walker product) on it to use as a mild adhesive, and whacked them in with a rubber mallet. they have stayed in OK and when I want them out the Sika 291 will break free well as it's intended as a waterproof sealing product with a bit of adhesive qualities to it.

fuchs center caps on Maxilite
i had no problem fitting oem centers, both silver & black sets, to my 16x8 maxi's - they fit "just right"
? maybe their original owner had already honed the bores ? |
