Raising the seat

I have Recaro SE's in my 1973 911 and I sit way too low. I think I'd be happy with 1" or maybe even 2" of extra ht.

I'm thinking of using square hollow steel tubing as a spacer with much longer bolts.

Is this safe? I don't know how to calculate loads on the tubing -- or perhaps more importantly -- on the longer seat bolts that will go thru the tubing (and be subjected to shear forces in an accident).

Any thoughts?
