My overvoltage issue solved, Engine blower motor fix idea?
After months of isolating circuits, a new ALTN, and a ton of head scratching I solved my random over voltage issue.
Turns out the Heater Blower Motor in the engine compartment was ticking and Arc’ing..hard to hear solo but thx to a friend we found it. Upon taking it apart I found it was a rebuilt unit. Someone forgot the E clip on the back and that caused it to travel back n forth. That caused the brushes to cut into the windings and sort of on and off the commutator. Cleaned up the commutator on the drill press. Bushings were fine. I made some new brushes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639448393.jpg Having a burned out orig one ( PO gave me all the old parts) and a friend giving me one that was dead ( brushes ) off an SC, I decided to re brush and fix the 2. All was well until I put the last one back together and the brush holder board cracked. Turns out underneath was so brittle and charred. I tried epoxy.. meh.. It kills me to spend $300 when I know it’s just a lil board. I like fixing vs replace. Any ideas? Got one saved, hope to save two. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639448393.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639448393.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639448393.jpg |
Find a source of that phenolic fiber board or whatever it is, take it to your local hydro cutter shop, have them make a new one? Use your obvious skills to reattach the various parts? Or would it be cheaper to find someone's throw away alternator and scavenge the part?

It is pretty much like Bosch made those blower motors impossible to rebuild as a design feature. There are many blower motors in a 3.2 Carrera. All of them are crappy by design. I think the Chinese were inspired to build their products of today the Bosch electric motor way.

Dansk sells knew ones, and they look different. I totally agree, of all the motors in our cars, these suck the most. Why not make them fixable. It’s 99% never the motor, or the squire cage..

I replaced the front blower motor assemblies in my 964 and I was blown away (no pun intended) by the ****ty bearings they use in those units. My 964 only has 50k miles too.
