Injector Sleeves
83 sc engine
I have a new intake pipe for my #4 cylinder. New sleeve and O rings. The reason I am replacing is that the old pipe, the injector was slipping out and the shop couldn't "stake" it in place so they put a dab of epoxy. Being somewhat OCD, I thought I use a spare pipe and replace everything I was going to assemble on the bench but the question now is what is the best way to stake the injector in? Any suggestions are welcome. The sleeve with new o ring is in and in fact, required a bit of hammering to get flush (flat piece on surface of sleeve and rubber mallet) so it sure feels like it wont come out ever again. Maybe staking is over kill? new sleeve and ring ready to install ![]() Sleeve in as far as it will go, pretty flush with pipe opening ![]() ps..looked at the technical article on PP and they stated not all are staked in but i know mine was previously staked prior to rebuild of top end and replacement of broken sleeves |

I seem to recall that sleeve should be a bit recessed. I used a center punch is 3 locations, just a light tap don't kill it.
Did you put a bit of lube on the o-ring that might help it seat.

Definitely needs to go deeper. You may need to clean up the old stake mark with a deburing tool, or the like. Dow Corning 111 for the o-rings.

Took advice
Using a socket I was able to get the sleeve in deeper and punched a couple of detants
![]() Now the trick is to get the old pipe off without removing CIS, being number 4 cylinder easy access at injector side, but hope hands can get to rubber boot end of pipe to install Then undo all the epoxy that covered the end of the injector...anyone got a trick for removing flexible epoxy? that or get another injector |

Suggest you clean up the damage on the ID of that sleeve. You don't want to cut that o-ring on installation. Shouldn't require all that much force to press into place.

One step ahead of you, all cleaned up and got old injector off and cleaned...next step is getting the old pipe off...could be a long weekend

I used a cylinder bur on my Foredom flexshaft to clean the old staking off and then knocked the old sleeves out from the backside. Of course I had the runners off the engine. I then cleaned up the bore where the staking was with a sand paper cartridge roll. New sleeve will just slide right in with minimal force. Re-stake in where it wasn't staked before.

All cleaned up and staked, trick now is removing old runner with CIS still in place, the rubber boot is clamped on and not easy to access the clamp screws to loosen
I have a new rubber sleeve, so may have to cut old clamps (dremel) and then re-install new boot with new clamps. That is assuming removing the far end of the runner allows the runner to come off? any one got tricks how to do #4 runner with CIS in place? |

New gasket on its way, is any sealant required such as Loctite or Permatex and if so which one? Stupid question..does the sealant go on the bottom or top side of the gasket?
As far as O Rings...again, what would be the equivalent permatex/Loctite for the dow 111 suggested above Thanks |

No sealant required. Dow 111 is silicone based and any quality silicone lube will work. I got a 1 or 2 oz. tin of the Dow online for cheap.

Got it off ok...will try to position runner on head studs without nuts and then clamp rubber boot before doing nuts guess I ll know in an hour :-) |

Got it back on..the trick was to slide the rubber sleeve past the detent on the pipe and have clamps loose enough to slide over onto rubber..install pipe loosely and then slide rubber boot and clamps into position. Tighten everything up and voila.

In a pinch i had a tube of 0 ring silicone from a pool supply, works good.
