Accelerator Adjustment ???
I'm Puzzled. I had a problem getting in to gears. I took my 76 911 to the local crook...I mean mechanic, who told me I needed a new pedal assembly. $200 later, I still had shifting problems.
I decided to pull the motor to replace the clutch - while the motor was out, decided to swap the stock 76 exhaust for SSIs and sport muffler. It shifts perfect and sounds great.....but. It seems to flatten on the power around 4K to 4.5K RPMs....????? I wasn't expecting much hp gain with the SSIs, but it's almost like I've lost hp. I know my 911 - something is wrong. The pedal doesn't seem to travel the same distance.... I'm thinking the accelerator linkage got screwed when the shop installed the new pedals OR I messed something up during the motor pull with the clutch change. Any advice. Please. |
I'm certainly no expert here, a newbie for sure... but wouldn't it be easy if you had a second person to sit in driver's seat and press GO pedal to the floor (w/ engine OFF) and check to see that you are getting WOT?

The long, long, multi-bellcranked accelerator linkage to carburetors--I have PMOs on my '83--is a wierdly progressive thing that allows for a variety of adjustments but similarly for a variety of mistakes. I went around and around for weeks trying to get the butterflies to fully open on full foot-pedal down, and it was totally frustrating. I'd do something that intuitively seemed positive and the result was _less_ throttle opening. Finally took it to the local Porsche shop and they fixed it...but even now, I'm not totally sure they did. It ain't easy.
