Oem brake lines back ordered
Oem - ATE (especially the rears) rubber brake lines for 85 carrera seem to be backordered all around the country. No eta's provided. Any suggestions on a good rubber alternative? Mine are now 36 years old and still hanging in there but....I'd rather be safe than sailing right out there. Thanks for any suggestions.

What about one of the other aftermarket part suppliers or a steel braided set?

I used FTE for my 1973. No issues.

Thanks for the info, I'll check with PMB and also look around for some FTE's.

Roger that HarryD, thanks. I've been able to find ATE and FTE fronts from PP just not rears. Rears appear to be out of stock from Pelican's venders with no eta. Genuine Porsche Parts 911-355-087-01 are available for the rears...but hoping not to have to shell out 97 bucks apiece. Will keep looking.

Goodridge Stainless are commonly recommended. That's what I used last year.

FWIW. for me. I flush my fluid annually with ATE Typ 200 (used alternate with blue). I have had the car since 2002. I had no issues in getting good flow at each cylinder but decided to replace anyway. I could not recall when I replaced the brake hoses so I decided to replace them all. The ones I took off appeared to be date coded in the '90's. When I cut them open, there was no signed of degradation. I could have waited. But I do feel better. My story here: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1064343-brake-hose-replacement.html

Brake hoses are original so 36 years old, got the sense from research that it is good to replace after 10 years or 100,000 miles which ever comes first. Found out from PMB Performance that no Oem or aftermarket rubber rear hoses were available. It's been a problem getting stock and has to do with importing and covid issues. Car stops fine so I guess I can bide my time if I decide to wait for rubber hoses. Kinda anxious for a project though.....

Just read your old thread Harry, your 29 year old lines looked really good. Gives me confidence to keep rolling with mine until Pelican restocks.

When you flush the old fluid, are there any issues in getting good flow? If so or you have other brake function issues, you may want to act sooner.

hitch911,
Not for not, factory part is $97 bucks? You got 36 years out of the last factory set, about $2.70 a year. Seems like a poor part to save a few bucks on. Joe D

Fluid still flowing well at all four corners. I won't hesitate to spring for the Porsche Genuines if the ATE's (OEM's) aren't available reasonably soon. Actually I'm not clear on the differences between the ATE's which were supposedly the OEM's for the car or the Genuine Porsche parts that list for 70 bucks more apiece. Is it just a logo, or a superior part?

![]() I am somewhat to blame. We hang new OE lines on every old 911 coming through for resale. They list at approx $78. Even we have to wait a bit on availability. No visible difference from the old part though it is a superseded part number. But new hoses have not been expanded and contracted thousands of cycles. So less give/slop at the pedal...

Just glad I didn't take mine off and cut them open looking for signs of arterioscelerosis...usually wise to wait til new parts are in hand. Hopefully soon.
