Aftermarket body panel fitting issue
Hi All,
I'm replacing a fender and a hood on a '87 911 Targa and I chose to buy aftermarket panels.I'm fitting the fender an I'm noticing that not everything is lining up 100%. The fender, near the door, seems slightly (just slightly) rounder than the original so the screw holes don't line up 100%. Also, toward the front near the bumper, another set of screwholes don't appear to line up with the bumper spacer. Do body shops normally encounter these things? Thanks for the help. -frogsickle |

Yeah man. "Massaging" body panels is definitely "a thing". I spent tons of time getting my fiberglass panels to fit on my light weight hotrod build so the gaps were good. It is also somewhat the nature of these cars and a result of how they were constructed at the factory originally. Lots of manual labor, massaging and coaxing done of the production line too.
Might want to visit the paint and bodywork forum here too. Good luck. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/paint-bodywork-detailing-forum/
