Canvas-Like material for Targa Top?

I recently got a car with a soft top and a truck tonneau cover made of similar canvas-like material. I find this to be better looking than vinyl, even if it’s vinyl that costs a bazillion dollars.

Is it completely blasphemous to cover a Targa top in soft top material? Anybody ever done it?

Actually, gave it some thought when I was redoing my Targa top a couple years ago...but decided to stay with the usual smooth black vinyl. Having a black interior with light ivory paint I figured black made more sense anyway.
With all the new 'exciting' convertible top canvas colors available, I bet it would look pretty good to do a color to match the interior. Had I had a red interior I might have considered it. It would have been a total knock out.

Haartz canvas looks decent enough. Seen several over the years. The stock vinyl looks better IMO.

I say do it...it's not permanent and totally reversible, besides the top are on only for a rainy day anyways. Post up some pics when its done!

I believe the Singer Targas have canvas tops. Look great!

Many years ago when I replaced my worn and tattered targa cover, I used marine grade canvas to replace the webbing material.

I used black canvas and cleaned up the spars which gave it a good look without having to use a headliner material.

Although I used a standard outer skin/cover - I'm confident the marine grade canvas would have held up quite well had I used it instead, but would have required sewing of end seams to use as a top cover.

I never thought of matching other parts of the car. My interior is black, so there’d be no change if I were matching the interior, but the body is a dark gray. A dark grey canvas top might look really cool against the gray body and stainless targa bar.

Black Haartz cloth will fade to gray over the years, so other colors likely will also.

I was thinking the same stuff as the Jeep soft top, is black and does not fade... Ive had mine for years outside and still looks new. Not sure what the stuff is made of though.

Mine has one fitted it on my Carrera3.0, Targa is the same material Porsche use on their 996 Cabriolet it has been on there seventeen years that I have owned it and looks amazing, far better than vinyl in my opinion,(pic in Garage)
