1988 Carrera Coilover Shock Conversion
Looking for reasonable cost options to convert this G body to coilover shocks. I'm converting my Carrera to a LS drive train with a 930 trans and it will be basically street driven.
I've been looking at Elephant Racing coilovers using stock struts.....anyone got experience with this option. Also been looking for used coilovers but have not located any at this point. I've built a few restomods using LS engines and Ridetech coilovers I also used QA1 coilovers which were hi-tech adjustable coilovers . They all were reasonably priced and performed well. I understand Porsche parts are pricey but 5k plus seems high compared to my Corvettes, 69 Camaros and hot rod builds! So I would appreciate any suggestions for reasonable options available but if I have to pull the trigger on 5k plus so be it!!!! |

Is there a reason you want coilovers? To me it just adds a ton of cost for little to no benefit, better off with 2-3 way adjustable shocks and the proper torsion bars.. or do you have to remove the TB tubes for your swap?

The tricky bit is that you need to weld shock tower supports in the rear (and might want a strut bar thing up front). Elephant and RSR sell them.
It's worth thinking about why you want to make this change. For me, the only benefit would be easier rear ride height changes (just to save me hassle in the garage—which still require an alignment and corner balance anyway). Everything else can be pretty well handled by torsion bars and better shocks. |
