New addition to the family..

Well, at least my extended family.

My father-in-law just came home with a new Cayenne S, green metallic on the beige leather. Have not seen it yet, but he is totally stoked on it. He calls it *real German engineering*, unlike his POS MBZ ML320. He is a big guy and is really hard on cars, it will be interesting to see how this holds up. He says the quality is really good.

He debated between the S and the Turbo, but basically said the Turbo is just crazy fast and it scared him. I said *damn*!!

Anyway, I'll post some pics and my own experience with it after the weekend.

Yeah, I plan on putting it thru the paces in some of the local canyons, maybe even OFF the road Wonder if I can get it into a nice drift thru the corners.

I dunno...should I be embarassed?

Tell him he should have bought the MBZ ML430. Suits me just fine.

Oh yeah, that's a good idea. Put your father-in-law's new Porsche through the paces. Sounds like dinner conversation for the next 50 years.

Well, I'll be the first one to congratulate him. Tell him he made a good decision and they're nice SUVs, a lot better than that POS outdated ML-class which was due for a makeover 4 years ago and still looks like a minivan from the back....ugh.

I thought I had read somewhere that all Cayennes were presold for 2003-2004. But I still see them on the lots at the local dealers. I'm pretty sure they'll sell every single one of them as fast as they can get them. So whatever they planned to export to the US, that's probably what the sales figure is gonna be.

Hey Brad,
There may be a good story for a movie in your Joyride in Dad's new off-road Porsche.

I agree the ML is a POS. I would by a Jeep GC before one of those.

I think the Pepperwagon is probably a nice (but ugly? (or perhaps BUTT ugly??)) vehichle - but I'm not sure about the whole Porsche 4x4 thing. I think I still like the sports car only car company model.

I was pissed when some branches scratched my 91 Range Rover while off roading, I can't picture someone doing this in a $100000 vehicle.
If it wasn't for the HP, I'd pick the new RR easy over the P-truck.

I saw 2 Cayenne S's at a dealer a couple of days ago.
I am starting to find them mildly attractive.

As far as sales go and the *sold out* issue, from what I understand, Porsche has *sold out* the dealers allocations, but the dealers seem to have them on the lot. He took one off the lot after they received one with everything he wanted, except color. Otherwise, it would have been a 7 month wait ordering it. He got it loaded and was someone disappointed at some of the options, which were not standard equipment. Thus, the price went from 55K to over 70K out the door. Still think he should have done the Turbo.

So, the plan for the weekend is to not have pancakes and bring my wife (and a blanket), and keep it sunny-side up, the Cayenne, that is

As far as being attractive, obviously subjective, but IMHO, better looking than the new Infinity FX35/45

I was waiting to see a Cayenne in person before making any final judgements about its styling. This weekend my wife and I were running some errands and happened to take a side street that went behind the local P car dealership. They had a couple Cayennes sitting beside the dealership. I can say that my mind is finally made up. That is one of the ugliest modern cars I have seen! The proportions are just really strange - it looks like a 996 station wagon that was stretched vertically. Regardless of how you feel about Porsche building an SUV or how you feel about SUVs in general, I think that most would find it quite ugly. It doesn't surprise that they would be sold out, however. Combine rich people's desire for SUVs and sports cars and you will have a sure winner. The more expensive, the faster it will sell.

I think Volkswagen did a better job with their version both outside and inside, plus you can get a 6-speed manual with theirs. Waiting for the V-10 turbodiesel...
