I realize that there is conflicting data on this thread about the Porshe seal vs after market. But I have always bought and used only Porsche RMS for my Carrera, SC, 996, 997, and all other Porsche models. The latest Porsche RMS for the 997 is the 10th iteration (some exaggeration here) but they have improved the material used for the sealing lip and the process requires installation DRY, bone dry, no oil prelub of any kind. When installed dry, the start up spinning is the last step that forms the seal around the crank to get a leak free seal.

I cannot tell you if they have used the same material on the 911 seal but I have always had good luck buying direct from Porsche, it comes in a plastic Porsche label bag, and it is $40.

When the part is deep within the belly of the beast, buy from a Porsche dealer.

Be certain its the seal leaking. Turns out most of my leak was the Oil pressure switch that leaked down to the bottom of the case, under the main seal.

The tech bulletin (and the Bentley manual) says to use Silastic 732 sealant which is a Dow Corning silicone sealant. I’m not going to go so far to say that it’s a bad choice. I just think epoxy like JB Weld, Loctite Hysol 9340, Devcon, etc works really well and readily available at local stores. These epoxies are similar to the material that is used to seal the case plugs and the back side of the chain boxes (stud mounting locations)

Well that's good info..BUT my engine did not leak before the rebuild, but prior tech glued the F$CK out of the front ,back, side, case parting line. So I think it was a warranty repair and he was CYA.
the seals I see available are:
1. Elring, both times the seal went in just with thumb pressure, this does not seem right, but who am I to argue with the collective.
2. Cortico, solid light green color.
3 SKF, all black
4 Timken, all black
5. Porsche dealer.
All sound like junk.
Flame on Gents,
Old Fart out.
