Question Oil lines, cooler & Tank on my "77"

I'm looking for someone who knows if I need to change or add an oil tank when adding a optional external oil cooler, lines....ect.
I'm fairly sure the oil lines from the thermostat and the return line to the tank would work on my stock oil tank.
I have a prospective seller of oil lines, cooler.ect. that thinks I need to by a new tank also. It's for the Carrera style cooler, lines but I don't think that matters for cars 74-89 right?
Thanks for the help!

You don't need to change your tank. In fact, the same line from tank to external thermostat is used from '74-'89.

When I added the external oil cooler to my California spec '76S (2.7 liter) I found it necessary to change two hose/line assemblies but not the oil tank. The hose/line from the engine hard line to the external oil cooler thermostat and the hose/line from the external oil cooler thermostat to the oil tank must be added and these can be specific to certain engines and years. The orginal hose from the oil tank to the engine hard line couldn't be reused for my year and I suspect a 1977 is the same. Try and get these hose/line assemblies with the system if the system is coming off a 2.7 liter model as they are not cheap. Also get the hard line mounting brackets and clamps and plastic bracket spacers with the old system. There is a bracket behind the right rear wheel and three under the rockers (plastic bracket spacers go under these rocker brackets) and two or three clamps in the right front wheel well. Cheers, Jim

Chuck & Jim,

Thanks for the input, I've got the 3.2 in my 77 and was wondering if the line from the tank to the thermostat will work and engine to thermostat line. The lines are coming from an "87" Carrera.
TIA
