That WUR was brand spankin' new, out of the box when I rebuilt the engine!
For the life of me, I can't understand what all of a sudden made this sediment issue in the tank bogg the entire fuel injection system.
I never ever had any problems related to that!
Bummer, Mike.
Glad it appears to be sorted out now.

Mike Kast 11-03-2003 09:03 PM

I knew it was new when I opened it up. Now I have two! Maybe I'll have to get another car to wrap it around. Anyone want to make me a deal on a 911 with a bad WUR?

Mike Kast 11-03-2003 09:10 PM

And Leland, Quit takin' it personal! It ain't your fault! That car has more balls than any SC on the board! If I had any sense I would have went streight to the reciepts. There are a few things I'd like to spank you for but it ain't that! lol
:D  :D

Leland Pate 11-03-2003 09:19 PM

Oh crap, what else is giving you trouble... what do I deserve a spankin' for?

See, this is the worst part about selling a car to a fellow PP member.

I get to watch every "CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THIS MORON PO DID... LOOK AT THIS "

And I get to go ... yeah... that was me. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/sad2.gif

Ok, from now on, Mike is only allowed to post good things about the car I slaved over for 5 years... ;)

Glad you got it fixed.

I'm not going to do a public whippin' Lee. There would be way to much backlash. They love you here! Your like the most popular kid in the class. They don't like me much already...lol...

Hey Mike,

I've got a rough start prob on my '79 SC also. It takes 4 or 5 tries before she stops dying on me. Once the car's warm, it runs like a champ. How hard was it to replace the WUR? Do you have a smog pump and did you have to move it out of the way or remove entirely? Thanks.

Chris

Mike Kast 11-03-2003 11:25 PM

I don't have a smog pump. But I think the smog pump is in line with the fan right? I would try to get to it by reaching over the pump unless the smog pump is easy to get out of the way. It has 2 fuel lines and and 2 vacume hoses that need to come off. And is held down with 2 allen screws. It was easy change. I only had to remove the hoses.Check out this

if you haven't already

Thanks for the tips and the link Mike.

Mike Kast 11-04-2003 09:18 AM

cantdrv55,
If you do have to remove the smog pump you ought to see what you might have to do to leave it off until you need to have it inspected again. It can't be helping your power or weight. OOOOOPS, did I just suggest an environmentally hazardous emissions spewing modification?
And a good treehugger like me too, I'm shocked at my disrespectful disregard for all things good!
But wait! a lightweight freeflowing 911 is good isn't it? You had better start another thread if you want to get into this though. :D

cantdrv55 11-04-2003 09:40 AM

Good thinking Mike. I asked another Pelicanhead about this before and was advised to remove the hose, plug it up and remove the belt. If it's that easy to take the pump out of commission, great, but I better double check.

azasadny 11-04-2003 10:04 AM

Mike,

I'm glad you got the 911 fixed. I went through a similar situation with my car this last fall and early this summer, but my problem was a "cold start" problem. After spending all kinds of $ and replacing a bunch of parts, I ended up finding out the problem was that the spark plugs were gapped too wide and the spark plug wires were bad. In the process, I learned alot about the car and how the CIS works and met an honest local mechanic so it wasn't a bad experience after all. I hope you see this as a positive experience as well! Take care and happy driving!

dtw 11-04-2003 10:22 AM

Mike,
Who were the first and second mechanics?

Mike Kast 11-04-2003 03:03 PM

First mechanic was who knows from European Motorworks. Second was Jerry from Metric Motors. He doesn't have anyone working there but him. Jerry is a trip! He doesn't talk much, he's real to the point and when he finished what he was doing with my car he was pretty abrupt about the fact that it was time for me to leave... But he was GREAT!

dtw 11-04-2003 03:09 PM

Never heard of either of those guys - unless by the first one you meant European Performance on Hillsborough in Raleigh?

Mike Kast 11-04-2003 03:44 PM

yes, sorry, European Performance is correct. And I have never heard anything really bad about E.P. So I feel bad putting them in a not so great light. The guy who gave me Jerry's name told me he uses E.P. but only for very specific tasks and he insists on certain people doing the work. Well... I'm not that good yet. He told me to go see Jerry.
Metric Motors is on South Saunders three blocks off the beltline towards Garner on the right side of the road. I was happy with him but it's all a toss up when your dealing with mechanics I guess. Thats why I have to learn how to do everything myself, I trust NO ONE! :D

Mike Kast 11-04-2003 03:48 PM

Hey Dave? Do you ever let anyone see your Laboratory?

dtw 11-04-2003 03:58 PM

Interesting about EP. Yep, I'd be curious about who did the work. The owner, Jim Ellison, is also the lead wrench and knows CIS inside out. They are unshakably honest, fair, and reasonably priced also. On countless jobs on several cars I have taken there, they have goofed from time to time. They've never been precious about admitting their mistakes and have always made good the second time around in those cases. Sorry your experience was bad, and I hope you give them another shot sometime.

Yeah, visitors are welcome in the lab anytime :D.

Mike Kast 11-04-2003 08:50 PM

every time I've been there I delt with Tolga. He's a good guy, I just get the feeling he doesn't care to much about 911's
Plus they would never let me near the garage. There was some top secret government buisiness going on I guess.
