Help with 911t oil temperature gauge

Finally got my car running but the oil temperature gauge does not work,
so I do not feel comfortable driving it because it could overheat without me knowing.

It’s a 1972 911t, 2.4 MFI motor.
I’ve looked at multiple threads about oil temp issues, but haven’t found the info I need.

I checked for continuity from the sender black wire to the 14 pin connector and it checks out.

The gauge pegs to the top when the black wire from the sender is grounded.

The gauge did NOT move when I removed the green wire from the G terminal on the back of the gauge.

The gauge pegged to the top when grounding the (G) terminal on the back of the gauge.

My car has a motor from 1973 (engine VIN 6130097), so I’m thinking maybe the gauge doesn’t match the sender?
I have no idea what year the gauge is from (pic below)

How can I test if the gauge doesn’t match the sender?

Any other ways I can test the gauge?
I’ve seen people putting in boiling water and measure the resistance, but I’m not entirely sure where to hook up the multimeter to do this.

Sometime in the past, almost all questions have been discussed and answered. This is a significant part of what makes this BBS so good.

There is a search function in the bar above. I prefer to use the advanced version so I can limit my search to air cooled 911's. To find the thread above I used the terms: temperature sender test

Over time, you will begin to see who offers excellent advice.
