Changing Oil Line

One of the recent posts regarding removing lower valve covers without dumping the oil got me thinking. I have to replace a leaking oil line from the sump return to the external tstat (86 Carrera). Oil is fresh Mobil 1. Has anyone tried the valve cover trick of raising the right side really high for this oil line. Think I can get away without draining the oil?

Why not just either wait til the next oil change... or dump the Mobile one and replace it with Shell Rotella T, for this oil change which is cheaper and has gotten great reviews in this forum from Porsche owners

Is that the line from the oil tank?

Any way you can alway drop the oil, put it into drums and reuse it.

It's done

Well, for what ever it is worth, the line is replaced.

I tipped the car up on it's side about as high as my stands permit and let it sit a few hours.

The hardest part was removing the 36 mm nut on the external tstat. After preparing for the Exxon Valdez sequel, a total of about 10 ml of oil leaked out, that was it.

So, it can be done without draining the oil!

I just changed my oil (last night), and replaced an oil hose while the engine was empty. Now, I just noticed another line I want to replace before the track. I will drain the Mobil 1 into a pan this week, then pour it back in... No harm done.
