But why are there two thermo-time switches (photos 2 & 4)? I didn't know they were ever mounted on the oil breather cover like that.

I have a similar switch on my breather, 82SC. The Bently manual actually gives specifics of on/off temps. I want to say that breather switch is 35 degrees.

I was was wondering the same thing. This engine just came back from the wrench. I bought it and had it rebuilt. The breather cover was not on it ,so he mailed me one later, I think its off of a later model car, so I was not going to connect to it. That was stupid ,I dont have anything to connect to it . The car is a 77 with a 2.7 and this new engine is 3.0L 1980. The sender on the right hand chain housing is a temp-time sensor and there is another one on the left cover as well. I needed to know which two componets are used to control the dash gauges for oil temp and oil pressure, so that I can change them to match my gauges. Which happen to be the numeral style. I'm not sure if there are factory correct for the 1977 model or the PO changed them

The small item in picture #3 is the oil temp sensor, the 2 on the cam chain covers are for the CIS (I believe). Pelican sells the 'early' sensor for the numerical guages.

Rick I agree with Charlie, and would just add that, on my '75 2.7, the left-hand cam chain cover has the thermo-switch, and it drives the cold-start injector (the one in the intake plenum). There is no switch on the my breather cover, and you just need one cam cover switch, not two. Sounds like you've got it pretty well straightened out.

Item one is for the idiot light on the dash, Item 3 is for the numerical bar gauge also in the dash. You will need to know the part number on number 3 so as to know if you can use an early style numbered gauge or not.
