Clock Repair

I finally am getting around to getting the clock fixed on my 1983 911sc. Is there a place that i can send it to to be repaired. Has slowly been getting worse and worse and now does not work at all. Want to keep as it is original to the car....a shop in the northeast would be idea (just a thought)... thanks

Any old school clock and watch repair shop can easily do this work, but so can you. There are a number of threads on this topic (https://forums.pelicanparts.com/search.php?searchid=23734814) (this one should work: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/913721-vdo-clock-repair-incl-pictures.html), so you should be able to find one for working on the quartz movement that yours should be.

Usually, what happens is the capacitors stop holding charge. I replaced both of the caps in mine and it works perfectly now. You'll need to have a modicum of soldering experience, but I'm more than sure there's a youtube video to get you through that if you need.

Nichols Speedometer & Instruments - Speedometers, Tachographs, Service and Repair North Carolina

Fixed mine. VDO authorized repair shop. Mailed it Monday and got it back Thursday. Crazy fast turnaround.

North Hollywood Speedometer does it all. The problem with the VDO Gage is the roll crimp on the bezel. A watch/clock repair place would not have the tools to un-roll and re-roll.

I think Palo Alto Speedo also does this work. I've had good service with them. Send it out is my suggestion.

You'd be surprised what can be serviced by a good watchmaker. I apprenticed at one. There is no great trick in rerolling the bezel edge (search odometer repair and see how Nico rolled that bezel - just a couple of defunct ims bearings). It's just a clock. Nothing special.

A simple repair, i.e. typically bad capacitors. Less a $1.00 repair!
