Bilstein green

Gents, I need to paint my Bilstein struts from 1979.
I ve been suggested to use Valspar 5339-13 Frd Gray Tractor and Implement Spray Paint
but unfortunately it is not sold in Europe.
Also I found this info Bilstein green = RAL 6010.
Can anybody confirm this?
Any info will be appreciated. Thx.

's what I did.
don't overrate it.
better to be on the road quick, than to waste time searching the 110% correct color…

I’m in the same boat with you guys, trying to find the right green to powder coat my freshly blasted Bilstein struts. I visited my local powder coater today and I compared a lot of the colors that everyone has been discussing. I compared them to a brand new Bilstein rear shock that will soon be installed on my car. This is just my opinion but based on my eyes today it seems that RAL 6002 is the closest. RAL 6010 was different, 6001 and John Deere green were close but not quite. As an aside, I actually did call Bilstein and asked what the paint code was. The representative said it was a “trade secret“ and he was not allowed to share that information! Anyway, I’ve left mine with the powder coated and they will be returned to me in RAL 6002. Fingers crossed!

If you are powder coating them do not worry about how close the green is..... Powder coat is not original or correct, so don't worry to much about the shade of green....

So, what should he do paint them purple??

Seems to me he's trying to get them the right color and be allowed to drive the car without chipping them and having them rust. Win win to me.

I grabbed some SPARVAR green from the shelf that seemd close and got done with it.
As long as it is not pink or blue, haha.

A true concour car would send them to Bilstein für rebuild anyway.

That's a pretty stupid response and uncalled for.

I think Jeff's reply is pretty clear and correct since he is not using the correct process a spot-on match isn't necessary.

6002 seems a pretty close match. Most of the strut is hidden and with shading no one will know it is a half shade off. Not to mention even from the factory one batch of strut color isn't exactly the same as another.

I did use John Deere green from a rattle can. I thought it matched quite well. If I ever do it again, I may look into the powder coating option. The counter argument is that I still have some JD green in the cabinet and it's quick, easy and inexpensive.

Ethan, please post pics of the struts after PC. I'm sure they will look amazing, that might push me towards a future PC project.....no doubt the PC would last longer than my rattle can solution!

I used the John Deere green implement (Krylon) in a rattle can and they turned out great. Not a concours car but very close, nice and clean and fresh looking

Hey, everyone has their own opinion about what's right for their car. Mine will never be a concours example, but I prefer to at least match the front struts and rear shocks. Hopefully the powder coat will hold up better than the original paint and look pretty close to original. I was simply trying to show the difference between current Bilstein green and some of the previously discussed paint codes. YMMV!

I'm totally with you. Ignore the critics. I have no idea why anyone would have an issue with what you're doing. They will look great. I did the same to my red/orange Konis. (But keep it quiet, I don't need the purist concourse guys hunting me down for powdercoating a bolt on part! The horrrrrrror!)

ha.

You’re the only one taking issue. Jeff was trying to say don’t wrong your hands about it, lose sleep, and overthink it. He even had a lighten up. Enjoy your car and build. Nobody is criticizing it…
