Its almost ready...again

Pulled the motor last year for a rebuild and will give updates and details once the engine is back in the next few weeks. In the meantime I cleaned up tons of loose ends on the car and prepped all the ancillary components for reinstallation.

Motor is currently out for new rings (all pistons/cylinders well within spec) new rod bearings, ARP rod bolts, and steel head studs. Heads were recently done with web grind 20/21 cams, new valve seals, and new valves.

In the meantime I've cleaned up the engine bay, replaced fuel lines, all main electrical harness (from DME) new fan, enlarged throttle body, serviced injectors, new Clewett ignition wires, Wevo shifter, among several other projects. I even got a chance to clean up the interior a bit and detail the exterior. Looking forward to getting it back on the road before summer.

Its amazing how many things you choose to tackle while you have the time. That's probably the only blessing in waiting for the engine to be completed. I've basically fixed all of the items I've put off for the past several years.

Backup lights fixed.
E-brake fixed, (simple fix if anyone else is experiencing a non functioning e-brake)
gauges restored. (shout out to pelican Jbell)
new injector harness
new fuel lines
Injectors serviced (witchunter)
new fan.
all engine bay wiring new.
RSR engine brace
Wevo shifter
body to bumper seals
Wevo sideplate with 930 bearing for 915 gearbox
Factory LSD

Bumper to body seals make a substantial difference

Front body seals are a serious pain to line up correctly but details make the difference.

Next time you see her, she'll be sitting in a proper stance!

We're excited for you to get the engine back in! That paint is gorgeous.

Definitely a top notch rebuild, wish I had the resources to do a similar refresh on my 84 BMW

long overdue update....While the engine is out I decided to tackle a few other projects I've been wanting to do. First off, I decided to put heat back in the car. Adding heat will allow me to drive it year round. Because all of the blower components were previously removed, I opted for a simple backdate heat system with heat going directly from the footwell outlet to the defroster. (with a small vent in-between to allow heat in the cabin)

This is untested but I think it will provide enough heat to work sufficiently for Nor Cal winters which are not too bad.

I also updated the door panels with some inspiration from another Pelican and as you can see the heat ducts are not visible unless you really stick your head under the dash.

The motor is finally ready and I'll be picking it up later this week. Surprisingly the original rod bearings were actually in extremely good condition considering the mileage. Below is a pic of one of the original Porsche red bearings dated 1984. We went ahead and installed all new rod bearings along with ARP rod bolts, reconditioned the rods, new steel head studs. New rings, valve job, 20/21 cams, new clutch, and all new seals. I'll post engine pics soon.

Tons of work done the past few days.... Almost ready to start. Gas and oil in, most everything is buttoned up, went to start and a completely dead battery. Charged overnight and only 10 volts this morning.

Engine install.
CV joints reattached
all other ancillary components installed.

Still need: Clutch adjustment. misc hose (for MAF) reinstall decklid hinges, new battery.

Thank you! I've owned the car before that 76 law was passed, and I now live in an area that doesn't require bi-annual smog inspections.

How many months has your car been down? It looks like you were quite productive.
