Window Regulator Mystery
I pulled these two regulators from my 1969E Targa. I believe the longer one with the spring outside of the mounting bosses is the correct one for my car but there are several different part numbers listed for 69- in the PET. The shorter one worked fine, but I'm don't think it is original to the car.
Searching for window regulators turns up both styles, and very unclear which ones are correct for which year cars, and if there are any differences between Coupe and Targa versions. Are the two parts interchangeable? The door mounting bosses are in the right spots, but the arm dimensions are clearly different putting the window slides farther out on one vs. the other. What years are correct for each of the two versions? Thanks for any help. Bill |

Anyone? Want to make sure when I put this all back together it's going to work properly. My guess would be that they both will fit and work properly, but have different leverage characteristics - making that shorter one require more rotations to raise the window, but requiring less torque per rotation so would "feel" easier to roll the window up?
Thanks in advance for any help, Bill |

You will find that these parts are 'date stamped' (numeric month and year) so that will help to determine what MY car they were originally fitted to...at least a starting point.

Thanks - yes, there is a date stamp 4/69 on the longer one, so that looks to be correct for this model year, and also agrees with what I see in the PET. I cannot find any stamping on the shorter one.
Any idea why the design was changed and what year that started? Bill |

Hello Bill, It has been some time since you posted this but I am currently looking to replace my window regulator on my 1969 912 Targa (build in 9/68). I have the mounting threads outside the spring so similar to the short one you are showing. Did you succeed mounting the other version?
