Melbourne- Looks like the end of Calder
CONFEDERATION OF AUSTRALIAN MOTOR SPORT (CAMS)
PRESS RELEASE 19 May 2003 For Immediate Release CALDER PARK TRACK LICENCE CANCELLED CAMS today announced the cancellation of Calder Park’s track licence, effective immediately, due to the operator, Calder Park Motorsport Promotions Pty Ltd, becoming insolvent. The Board of Calder Park Motorsport Promotions Pty Ltd passed a resolution on 19 March 2003 that the entity was insolvent and has been subsequently placed into administration. With no expectations of future trading and no ability to pay for Calder Park’s track licence for 2003, CAMS President, Colin Osborne, said CAMS had no option but to remove the licence. “This unfortunately means that no CAMS permitted events can be held at Calder Park after today unless a new operator successfully applies for a track licence”, said Osborne. “Administrators of Calder Park Motorsport Promotions Pty Ltd have been given every opportunity to continue with the current track licence but have chosen not to.” Osborne concluded, “The situation is obviously disappointing for clubs that have meetings planned at Calder Park in the coming months. CAMS will endeavour to provide assistance to the affected clubs in sourcing alternative venues to enable these meetings to run”. The real estate has been sold anyway. More 50 sq boxes with with greco roman columns, doubtless. God knows what they are going to do wirth that huge pile of dirt next door. stuart 87 carrera |

Buy them, sell them

I read that on another forum the other day, but I didn't know that the real estate was sold!
They're not going to subdivide the track (and surrounds) and build another housing development are they?

Sounds like the same fate Lakside might end up with.

Melbourne-based racing teams, tuning houses, car magaznines, performance driving schools, and individuals need a track close to the CBD.
If Calder'a flat track is ripped up in favour of yet another housing development, then all we have left is Sandown and Winton. But Winton is a two-hour drive from the city; one track is not enough. I've never driven my car around an indoor go-kart track. It might be fun. Never mind the magazines, club events and tuning houses.
The biggest farkup here is that this confirms the state of Victoria will never again be shaken to it's foundations by flame spewing, ear drum shattering, ground moving, bitumen tearing top fuel / funny car action again. Now what am I going to do with my last surviving blue singlets? StuartJ and Sean - I think the w*gs are all building in the "French Provincial" style now. Greco roman is so '90ies.
