Michelin Pilot Sport 4S vs Pilot Sport 4 All Season
Anyone have any first-hand experience with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 All Season (16's)?
I'm considering them as an alternative to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (Summer tire). I've read quite a few positive comments about the Pilot Sport AS3's - (which have been discontinued.) I do live in a location with colder temps in the Winter, and early Spring, but not so many miles put on the car during those periods... |

They have served me well on the street and fast mountain rallies. I bought for the same reason (low temps). They’re not super stiff, but I don’t really think I’m giving up too much over a summer tire unless you intend to AX or DE.

I really like them for mountain roads in OR the summer tires i had were very sketchy when the temps get below 50.

I've used both AS3+ and AS4+ all seasons. Great tires for winter and general touring. Very heavy. I wouldn't put them on a 911 unless it was a spare set just for winter use which is what I did for the BMW. Summer set was Yokohama ADVAN A052s which were phenomenal tires in the summer on an E92 M Sport.
Both sets excelled in what they were designed for.

Love all these guys running Yokohama ADVAN A052 and the like for summer tires. Must be nice. Cant do that in Florida! One of our multiple times a week afternoon rain shower in the summer and you would be off the road in 30 seconds. If you want 1 tire for year round, might go the all season. Here in FL we have a few nights in the 20's per year, so I dont bother down here. Car never see's snow, and on days the temps are in the 40's, I just drive a little more careful.
I am about to replace my Continental DW's (not the DWS) with the 4S. SO EXCITED to run a really modern tire. For me, on the street, if I am exceeding their grip (or any pretty good and fully treaded tire) I am driving way too fast for the street. Even on a canyon road. No safety margin for morons or cyclist, etc. Just my 2 cents.

According to the spec sheets on the Michelin PS 4AS (in the sizes needed) the weight is indicated as being 21 lbs F, and 22 lbs R. The Yokohama Advan A052 Summer tire spec sheet shows weights being 21 lbs F, and 21 lbs R. Consequently, I'm thinking that weight is a non-factor in the decision. |

And on the road feel. I liked the heaviness of the Michelins in the winter and for long drives like Boston to Chicago for Thanksgiving. Perfect tire for that kind of trip. Summer the car felt like a go-cart again. It was like it had gained 20hp.

Can someone post a link to Pilot Sport 4S in 16s? The smallest I can find is a 17" wheel, and I would be first in line if this is true. The non run flat version came on my m550i, and they're great tires.

Michelin website shows 17” as smallest for the 4s. I looked for 16” last Fall and found the same problem.

SkiVT - you can get a 'Pilot Sport 4S' in 16" diameter - like Ironman says, but they will arrive with the "S" removed on delivery.

BTW Tirerack says the PS4 is not available for a 16" wheel:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+4 The one Steve linked above looks like the "All Season" PS4S to me... |

So, I'm in the same boat. I live in the mid-west. I drive mainly country roads, but plan on headed down to the Carolinas for some mountain road driving. That said, I'd like to try a track day this year. I had planned on AS 4s because most of my driving is street. I am curious about the AS 4s on the track. Is this a absolute No Go or is it just a matter of giving up some handling?
