Scary what you run into even on a clean car

Saw this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=b6iQU21DqGk

The guy put in a lot of work and I'm now worried what I'll run into when I really get into my 86.

That is Johannes Greasyfingers from Bavaria Germany.
There is already a much applauded thread about him here recently

The YouTube provides a fantastic overview of what can be involved with a 3.2 Carrera refresh. Wish I would have had that visual reference when I did my suspension refresh etc. a couple of years ago.

The hidden rust and required fabrication, welding and paint skills and even the dedicated time are what's difficult. I know of exactly 0 people who are competent in all and the cost would be prohibitive.

Hopefully, I won't need to go close.

If you spend enough time on the internet you will eventually come to the conclusion that the only reliable part on any of these cars is the screw driver you keep in the glove compartment in case everything else breaks....

Some P-Car advice, don't worry so much, the car was designed by humans, built (mostly) by humans, driven by humans, broken by humans, and fixed by humans. You are a human (presumably) and can accomplish all of these tasks.

Regards
Dave

I've wanted one for a long time. I have one. I'm driving it and will fix as needed - but keep driving.

When I bought my 86 I could change my oil and a few other things - the only other thing I possessed was blind optimism about what I could learn and a brutal relentlessness.

7 years later I’ve rebuilt engines - refreshed multiple suspensions - learned how to align my car - weld and paint and almost everything in between. At first I wrenched in my apartment parking lot. Then my first house. Now with almost a full garage of tools in my second house.

Enjoy the journey. Maybe in another ten years it will be the exact car i want it to be.

For the most part but man I’ve seen some well rounded mad skills exhibited in builds posted on this forum. Amazing stuff including the skills exhibited by the patient dude from Bavaria.
