wired window switch wrong, and now...
 
I posted this yesterday but no responses. Since it was Sunday maybe no one saw it.

A problem occured when I wired the window switch incorrectly. Now the passenger side is not working at all.... what could I have blown up when I did this? (see below)

1) I took the drivers/passenger switch, put it in the driver/driver and it works.

2) I took the passenger/passenger switch and put it in the driver/passenger, apparently hooked it up (wired) it wrong and blew a fuse. I switch connections and blew a second switch. Trunk was open I heard a small pop and the fuse was gone again.

3) I changed the fuse the second time and created this post which KB helped with wiring recommendations.

4) Today I went out to wire drivers/passenger correctly, with the new fuse. I wired it up and Nothing happens. Passenger window doesnt budge.

5) I took the drivers switch back out and tried it in drivers/passenger. Still nothing. I put the previous switch in the drivers/driver and it works...so I know I have 2 good switches.

6) I then took both of these good switches and put them in passenger/passenger...wired it according to above. Nothing.

** Could I have blown something up in the passenger window motor, or some kind of Relay?...when I blew those fuses by miswiring 2X back in step 2??

If not....what could be causing me to not get driver/passenger or passenger/passenger to now work? It always worked before I blew the fuses changing the switch.

fuse probably. looking at the back of the switch, with the single terminal at the top, the red wire goes to the top and bottom right, the brown ground goes bottom left, and the two other wires from the motor go on the middle two. if the motor goes the wrong way, swap the middle ones. the right window won't work if the left window switch is bad, or wired wrong.

John...the fuses all look good. The drivers side windows works fine... are the passenger window switches on a different fuse?

Ahhhh.. something I am an expert in - blowing power window relays! :D

You've probably toasted the power window relay.

first.. ENSURE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING wired properly at this point.

if so, you can use your fuel pump (red) relay as a test. you can switch the (probably) blown power window relay with the working fuel pump relay to check. if your windows work, that's what it was.

You'll have to switch it back to drive the car, but you can probably get a new PW relay from pelican fedex'd by the weekend.

Pay your 22.95 to the nice pelican man for a replacement :-)

Thanks clnilsen... that seems like it would be the culprit.

Question: are there seperate pw relays for the drivers window and the passenger? The drivers side is still working...

I attempted to read the schematic in Haynes to figure this out...but got dizzy and threw up. ;)

You can swap out the relays in the front fuse panel to test, like he said. I did this for fog light probs. I believe your fog lights and AC plug in relays on the fuse panel are the same as your power window ones. I don't think you blew one up though, but if you swap the power window one with your AC one, you can test. You'll need to look up bentley for sure, but I know the far front is AC, the next one is Fog lights, then...maybe the 2nd to last one going back from the front of the car is the power window, but I really do not remember. It's listed in the manual near the end.
Lastly there is probably no way you blew anything up--you can really only just keep blowing fuses. Unless you hard wired past the fuse (can't imagine why), forcing the short, then you'll just melt wires.
You got it hooked up wrong, I'm think.

You can bench-test the relay by applying voltage through the control circuit (small terminals) and checking if there is continuity through the load circuit (big terminals). If there are 5 or more couble check the wiring diagram.

Hello guys... Is there a seperate relay for each window? Or just one?

If not...then why would the drivers/drivers switch still operate the window correctly?

If there is just one relay...then if it had gone out, then both windows would stop working right? not just one?

Just one relay for both power windows.

Okay, then...There is also a possibility that in the mess you pulled one of the wires that goes to the window motor off on the side that doesn't work. It isn't that hard to do. They're actually just shoved on there like they are in the switch--no fancy connector.

First, on the passenger side, see that the double red line coming to that switch is hot by putting a voltmeter between it and the brown line. It's gotta read 12v so you know it's getting current.
Then if it is and you have it hooked up right, it's possible you pulled one of the wires off the window switch itself.
You maybe have to get at the door without the panel on and shine a light up there (from where speaker hole is) and make sure they're both still connected. Again, no way you burned out the motor, just a matter of finding out where the wiring came loose or is not connected.
