Lift Question - Placement

Ok, now I need to figure out where I'm going to place the lift in the new shop. The hole for the lift will be created when the foundation goes in. I'll make a cover for it, so it will be flush and out of the way when not in use

I'm 99.99% sold on the Mohawk Lift More on that decision here: Scissor Lift Summary
  • A - pro: off to the side, close to the bench; con: can't think of any
  • B - pro: lots of room on either side, easy access; con: in the middle of everything
  • C - same as B
  • E - pro: easy access, leaves most of the shop open
  • D - more of E
  • F - pro: very easy access; con: will probably be in the way

After enumerating my choices, "A" seems to be a better choice than I'd originally imagined.

For reference, the structure is 25'x25', with 10' walls and the ceiling will be ~13' in the center.

I'm always open to suggestions.

Also, the lift guy is supposed to be bringing a demo unit out tomorrow after work. If anyone wants to come by and check it out, lemme know.

my 2 cents....i vote for D....

when you pull your engine and tranny you can put that in the A/B region near your bench and work on it there...

at A, I would imagine the car would then be between your bench and the engine tranny

Between A and B! I have about 3' between my lift and the carbinet/wall, and it is a pain sometimes. Give yourself at least 4 feet, but 5 is better...workspace makes a job much more enjoyable, but cram into a corner while turning that srew upside down under the flapper box with your leg sticking up in the air sucks!

E or between E and the garage door. You won't need to move other cars/stuff to get to the lift, and if a project ties up the lift, you can still park under it.

Never mind, can't park under mohawk. Why not get afull height lift?
