A new addition to the stable

Ok so the idea was to get something utilitarian and cheap to drive around campus as the 70E restoration progresses. I got the utilitarian part right as for the cheap, oh well. Its a 1955 land rover series 1, it has been restored and is in good conditon. It tops out a 70mph (optimisitc) so it will help control the mounting pile of speeding tickets. Im subsidising the retirement of all NC state troopers. Here it is in Southampton, UK being loaded to go to the shipping docks then on its way to the USA. If anybody needs advise bringing a car in from overseas drop me a line as i have learned quite a bit during the process, lets just hope the cargo ship dosent sink in the Atlantichttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...rtransit2x.JPG

Cool looking bomb proof vehicle. Vintage Land Rover..?

Im sure someone here with Photoshop will lower it and throw a Carerra logo on the side of it and post the pic here.

What in the heck are you going to do with that? You do know that the war is over.

I had a 1967 IIA (88) and I can ASSURE you that thing will NOT go 70MPH (even with an overdrive. That is REALLY cool though. Go here: roversnorth.com. go to the bbs section. get rid of the "pickup" top and get the soft top.

that is really cool. i could never get the electrics to work. (lucas)

A great piece of kit! I have had several Land Rovers including a Series 1 and a 1960 Series 2 (below), I would be surprised if it goes more than 60 though! And, boy, is the ride rough. It's the equivalent of a Willys Jeep

What are those front hubs?

redducati750 05-19-2003 02:36 PM

yea, they are freewheeling hubs, i think they are to completely disengage the wheel from the 4 wheel drive, This is my first rover i was able to track down an original factory workshop manuel in the UK, i imagine im gonna need it.

As a Rover guy, I would suggest that 60 mph with a hurricane at your back is about right unless they changed the transmission to a series IIA or later. Great body on that beast though. The shop manual will come in handy, although their nearly bombproof. The UK's version of a tractor...really. I hope you enjoy it. They're a total blast and Chapel Hill ought to be warm enough that not having heat shouldn't be that big of a deal. You can always add it from later models if this one didn't have it factory (which most Series I's did not). Best of luck. Great Landy.

Bombproof is a word i love.

I like it. You won't have to be watching your mirrors in that one.
Cheers
