Gas pedal died. Help.

I was driving my car thru a low water bridge on the road I live on. I was letting the car roll at about 5-10mph (??)....in other words......SLOW. When I got through the water (1-2") I went to lightly give it gas and there was NO pedal. Is there a easy way to do this right the first time??
Appreciate your help........Dave if you're reading this. I thought of you immediately, right after I thought of "McGyver"......Chuckle!!
Thanks to all!
Gary C.

Throttle linkage is essentially threaded rods, screwed into ball/socket joints at several pivot points along the way. A friend had a 76 Targa that had a similar problem to what you describe (minus the water part). Turns out one of the rods had unscrewed from the pivot, luckily the very last one, so it was easy to get to.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Get it home. Take off the cover to the cluster. One nut, 10mm size wrench will do it.
Pull the accel pedal forward. You'll see lever with a rod attached. That pops into the back of the pedal. You'll also note on that lever just inside of the clutch arm, another knobbed cable connector.
It is also possible both of those are hooked and the arm of the accelerator came loose from the rod that secures it to the pedal cluster.
If that is the case, you can slip it out easily by looking for a pin that holds the rod onto the cluster. Should be inside noted by one of those bendable pins going through it. Pull that out, and you can remove the rod and the arm (pop off the one to the throttle linkage). Take that and either weld it on there permanently, or drill a hold and put something through it to keep it on the rod. You can still slip it back on as one piece--there is enough room under there.
Had the same problem.
