Northeast

Trying to find fellow enthusiasts in the Northeast. I just typed up a lengthy post in the Northeast group only to get an error and then lose the post. Any recommendations for finding some local porsche guys? My current project is a ‘79 SC ROW. It was victim to an engine fire before I purchased it and most of drivers rear was like tin foil. I have replaced both rear crossmembers as well as the rear frame section and kidney area. This will hopefully be a bare bones hot rod. Again, just looking for some peeps to share with in the hope of reinforcing my excitement in the project.
Best regards.

Northeast is a big area, lots of guys spread around. I’m sure there’s a few near you.

So, where in the NE are you???
Good luck with the project, sounds daunting!

I'm in Fairfield County CT, South West CT for those unfamiliar with CT. So basically along the coast between NYC and Bridgeport CT.

NE is a not so huge area, but Long Island is a long way from say Springfield MA if you're driving! And it's like 5 weather zones!

I am assuming since his Pelican name is BostonIVVI, he is close to Boston. But, my assumptions have been wrong before

I'm about 30 minutes north of Boston.

If you haven't joined PCA, I recommend it. Lots of nice folks, and exclusive P-car focus.

PCA Northeast has a cars & coffee one sunday a month from May to Oct. There's one in Northborough, MA and one in Middletown, RI. First ones aren't scheduled yet but they'll be listed here https://porschenet.com/events/ You don't have to be a PCA member. There's also a Cape Cod Porsche Gruppe that meets every summer saturday morning in Hyannis https://porschenet.com/events/porsches-on-the-cape-2018-08-18/#:~:text=The%20Cape%20Cod%20Porsche%20Gruppe,with% 20almost%20everything%20in%20between They are also on facebook

I swear I looked at his location earlier, and it was empty, but now I see it says Danvers MA. Maybe I missed it

Thanks Guys. I am in Danvers MA. 25 minutes North of Boston. I am a PCA member. My step Dad is on the Cape and has a few Porsches. I have been to Cars and Coffee and met some great people. I am looking for guys that are crazy like me and into projects like my 911. I am also lucky to have a 986 that I can actually drive. Usually have to wait for nice weather but was able to cruise around yesterday since the roads were clear before we got some snow. While the 911 has been a dream car since first driving one when I was 15, I have been a traditional hot rodder. I have built a few hot rod or kustom cars and trucks. I have lost touch with the hot rod crowd as they think I have gone to the dark side with my Porsches.

I moved out of Brookline a while back but here's my $0.02. Go to the track, Cars and Coffees and PCA events. You really only have to befriend one enthusiast because that person probably already has a few enthusiast friends of their own. Instant group of like-minded people. Larz Anderson hosts a C&C along with some larger shows during the summer - German car day and Porsche day come to mind. Watch the NH and VT PCA schedules for events. The NH PCA (Northeast region?) used to host a show just north of you. The Green Mountain events will be a couple hours drive for you. Further away, Hemmings and the Saratoga Auto Museum also host various shows that draw people in from around New England. Don't forget that LRP is ~3 hr drive SW of you. You should be able to find a concentrated group of enthusiasts at any of these events. Good luck

THis is one of lifes things that bugs me. It's like me riding my V twin Ducati and waving at other bikers. Some ignore (or don't see), some wave, and Harley guys are 5% wave, 85% ignore and the rest give yu the finger. I mean why?

I love some of the hot rods. Granted I'm not billet this and Chevy vs Ford that, but I love the ideation, creativity, and craftsmanship that you see in that world.

Oh well, welcome to the dark side. No car drives like a 911, and few rods have even half the steering feel and handling and poise.

Welcome! I'm in Saugus so pretty close to you. I also have a non-running 1979. I don't really hang out with any Porsche guys, so can't help you there - I used to work with a couple but no longer.

If you need professional help at some point, Autobahn Performance in Peabody may be the closest place to you. They've serviced my car a few times, but that was years ago. I think they still have a good reputation.

Mark

You should look for old threads with the search word Boston and try contacting some locals directly.

Where on the Cape? Mrs. Noah is from there, and we visit her family every summer. We're planning on moving back there is a few years.

I'd count Shaun as a Porschephile, and he and his company Tru6 are in Watertown. Another buddy has started a G-body restomod company called Reine Freude in Lawrence. So there are some Porsche enthusiasts around Boston.

Thank you for all of the responses. It is important to find like minded people when on a journey with a project like mine. Here is a photo to show just how crazy I am. The shock mount crossmember is from a donor car as is the dog leg and frame section. The rear crossmember is a repro piece.

PCA NER / NCR is full of great people.

I'm local to you. I've fallen in love with track driving. I also drive a 1979.

Rene at Rensport, 370 Hudson Rd in Stow, Ma has lots of used parts if needed. Two "shops" are located at that site. MC Racing is also located at that same location but Rene is a good resource for parts....and advice.

I am not too far away. There are auto cross events at the Devens airfield in Ayer (15 minutes from my house). You will meet lots of local enthusiasts if you attend one of the events there.
