I was in Monterey too, to see the cars, hang out with my father-in-law ('73 911S), meet some other Porsche enthusiasts, and lastly to see what's up with the RGruppe.
The cars were incredible, just jaw-dropping. Anyone can tell that from the pics that were posted, but in person it's another thing. WOW! I found the RGruppers friendly enough when approached, but definitely because I have a bumper car in stock trim - not stock internals! :) - they were as a group a little cool toward me. ..with some notable exceptions. That's fine.. I'm used to not fitting in with most groups and I certainly don't need a club to enjoy my car. Yes, the Laguna Seca parade lap, as well as the lineup at the restaurant were unforgettable automotive experiences for me, and I gotta thank the Gruppe for that. Very cool. Interesting, though, that as far as I know there's no club yet for hotrodded '84-'89 Carreras... |

My kitchen's not too hot, I've got all the windows open and the fan running. Actually, with the freezer open, I could probably get this place down into 60s. Brrrrrr.:D
Oh, and for the record, I don't remember any 914 being sold in the US with a VW emblem ... all Porsche all the time, baby. |

R Gruppe
The R Gruppe was started to fill a void that existed. Those who could have the Hot Rod attitude with pre 74 911's and share that enthusiasm with one an other.
To those who have not been fortunate to attend an R Gruppe event, in my opinion you have missed out. If you have seen the postings on this board or the Early 911S Registry board you only get a very small picture of how much fun we really have. People who will help each other at the drop of a hat. There are members who are mechanics, doctors, lawers, ceo's, cfo's, and every other type of profession all brought together by a common interest. There are a FEW, that may have an attitude but they won't last long. As John put it, all attitude is in the cars. I feel very fortunate to be part of the R Gruppe and have made friends I think I will have for a very long time. Although membership is not open to everyone, everyone is welcome to your events. Read the posts and look at the pictures and I think they speak for themselves, we do have a GOOD time! All the best! Look around at this board in general. Your description fits this board to a tee. |

Although not an American, I propose a special new amendment to the, err, amendment to the Constitution. The First one.
Some may see it as a backward step. But I think that it should be ok to discriminate against another's Porsche bumpers. Nah, it should be a Consitutional requirement. Screw getting along. This is important. Of course, that puts me in the somewhat tricky position of having to discriminate against myself. |

R Gruppe
Island,
Somehow I don't understand why you would come back with a remark like "Do you think the R Gruppe owns that". All I was trying to convey is was what the R Gruppe is like. After all, you have the SCWDP for you FAT bumper guys! I don't understand why people will condem what they don't understand. Roger R Gruppe #27 73 RS-T 70 2.4 MFI VW Bus Both with attitude! |
Interesting responses so far guys, thanks!
It seems that, inferring from the above comments, that the RGruppe is a band of musketeers who have chosen a particular type of wine as their favorite....not that they have anything against any others. In this case, it's the early 911s. They aren't nutso about originality, but they do seem to prescribe to modifications that are well, things that Porsche might have done themselves. And it seems safe to say that the group is one that isn't a bunch of posers....these guys are committed.....driving from CO to Laguna for the weekend does indeed to seem to be a good initiation! (Just curious....I drove my 911 across the country from Fairfield County CT, to Newport Beach CA, via Co. What a drive! But I counted TWO 911s between the coasts other than mine!!! How many did you see on your trip to Laguna, Bill? {Zotman}) In all, it seems like a great bunch, with the core values in the right places. Too bad it's so West Coast oriented! We DO have cool early 911s here on the East Coast too! And where was the awesome Rennsport Reunion held?? Lime Rock! I think we need a strong RGuppe eastern presence.....hmmmmmm.... |
