See now *that* is a witty return, on planters hilarious post.

Of course speeder is a smart SC owner. . .coincident!? I don't think so. SC owners seem to be not so damn uptight. . . not worrying about rust may be part of it.

MUHAHAhahahah. . :D

isn't it time for Rodney King to show up?

"Can't we all just get along?!?"

;)

island911 05-20-2003 10:55 PM

R-odney was an r-grupper. What he actually said was;
"Can't we all just get a long . . .. nose? "

Yes, poor R-odney was cut-off by "the man" and left sounding stupid
"the man". . .believed to be part of the SCWDP; though rumor has it, that it was done by some sort of 964 story Planter.

Either way it deserves a MUHAHAhahahaha. ;)

I won't get long winded with by post, but feel I must add something.
I joined the RGRUPPE a couple years ago and live in Vermont. Should have joined earlier as I missed the first two Cambria events. The main requirment to join the club is to leave any ego at home and have enthusiasm for early 911 cars. As a member of the Early 911S Registry, I can say that the main differance between the two clubs is as follows:
The S registry focus is on cars that are original and basically unmodified.
The RGRUPPE cars fill the void as they are almost ALL modified from stock to a real taste full level. From mild to wild. In the early years of the 911, Porsche offered some really neat factory options that we don't hear about to much because 30 years have passed since those days. Many of the RGRUPPE cars have those early modifications to bring back the good old days.
As far as the members between to two clubs, they are very similar people. Many members belong to both clubs.
The RGRUPPE being a west coast thing is mainly due to the high population of 911 cars in California and the fact they have the climate 12 months of the year.
The RGRUPPE was founded by to very capable people. They are fair in their decisions. Having traveled 3000 miles to the last 2 RGRUPPE annual events, all I can say is positve things about all the west coast people I have met. They make me feel as welcome as anyone. If not more because of the distance I travel.
Anyone who is a true enthusist, can plan a year ahead to attend a RGRUPPE event. Distance doesn't matter. This year Mark Waring made it from England. ( 2nd trip to Cali this year for him!)
Anyone who has negitive comments about any of the west coast Porsche clubs simply hasn't attended a event and met the people.
So much about being long winded!

R Gruppe

Well said!

Jake and Rick, very well said! There always seem to be some who just want to bad mouth others having a goodtime. My conclusion is pure R Gruppe envy! Too bad they rather condem than to check out what it is really like.

All the best!

RGRUPPE

Well, as a very recent 'inductee', having passed the 'oh-so-secret' ceremony, (which will remain secret for the puposes of this post)...suffice it to say, that as a member of the PCA, 356 Registry, 356 Club, and the Early "S" REgistry...by far the most fun, most interesting (friends AND CARS)...are all people and cars I've met....thru the RGRUPPE! I had a BLAST in Monterey! I was in Cambria for the previous 2 RGRUPPE meets, but at the time, only owned a 356, so did not inquire about membership....but now, with 2 911's, joining the group has made the cars themselves more enjoyable...let's face it; it's fun to share your obsession with others of like mind....bottom line is: we all get together for drives, comradeship, and to TALK ABOUT OUR CARS!!!!! WHAT COULD BE BETTER?

;)

I confess...it's the bumpers. For quite some time I thought the 911 was screwed visually. The pure early design ruined by government mandates. Then along came the 993,which I liked.
Then along came the 996. In retrospect, maybe those bumpers aren't so bad? ;)

The beer. Don't forget the beer.

I would turn in my RGruppe App. in a heartbeat if I lived on the West coast. I think my car would qualify as having the right look and attitude. But alas I live in the porsche wasteland of the midwest. We are happy if 7 Porsches show up to an auto-X. So I am an RGrupper at least in spirit!

Mr9146 05-21-2003 09:37 AM

It seems to me that everyone is fixated on R Gruppe being exclusive to the early 911. Now, while the VAST - or is it FAST? ;) - MAJORITY of R Gruppers roll 911s, there are, I believe, (2) 914 owners who have been accepted into the hallowed portals of R Grupperdom.

Being one of those members - self-advancing aggrandizement at its best:D :D  - I find it extrememly important to note that the R Gruppe is non-vehicle-discriminatory.

What it boils down to is attitude and commitment ... and the ability to bear the immense burden of constant ridicule by fellow R Gruppers for my driving a 914-6.;)

It is, however, also important to note that my rites of initiation have been extended - due to the fact that I drive a disgruntled middle-child of the Porsche family, albeit with a 911 heart, soul and front suspension.

See you at the track, boys.SmileWavy Oh, and if you question commitment, ask about the Lambo Killer.

RSupdate 05-21-2003 09:51 AM

Marco...

Although it's noted in yr sig....

yer "6" is just a "TAD" more beastly that a std 914-6.....

I say we amp up the designating label of it.....

Put some flares on it so we can call it a 916...!!!!! I almost wanna call it that now....:D

cheers !!!

pwd72s 05-21-2003 09:54 AM

More than two teen sixes I think. Tom Wilkinson has a beautiful silver teen six to back up his beautiful orange '73T...Either car would look good in my garage. :D

RSupdate 05-21-2003 10:08 AM

We missed Tom at Monterey this year, We missed you 2 PWD !!!

Mr9146 05-21-2003 10:09 AM

R Gruppe 914 Crew!!!!

HEY TOM, IF YOU'RE OUT THERE, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, BUDDY:cool: SmileWavy :D !!!!! The 914s have gotta stick together, man.

Hey, Merlin, you'll never catch flares on my car - sleeper, baby, sleeper.;)

Only thing that gives away the "beast" - you know, I've never thought of my car as a beast before:) - from the outside is the 5-bolt lugs and the sport-muffler. Sharp eyed Porschephiles are the only one's who'll realize it ... everyone else, too bad for them.:D

lendaddy 05-21-2003 10:21 AM

"I believe, (2) 914 owners who have been accepted into the hallowed portals of R Grupperdom."

Damn quotas! First Augusta National and now this. What has this world come to? :)

Mr9146 05-21-2003 11:21 AM

No Qualms

Hey, when it comes to the type of exclusivity offered by the R Gruppe, I'll take it any way I can get it.:D

But not that way ... perverts.

I mean, think about it. I was so desperate to own a Porsche that I built a 914-6 when I was only 16. Heck, if I'm willing to stoop to that level, being a quota-member doesn't phase me in the slightest.

And let me tell you something else, it sure was tough having a Porsche in HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!

lendaddy 05-21-2003 12:35 PM

You've finally arrived! no? Just having a little fun. :)
