Lower valve cover gasket replacement questions
1) Should I use loctite?
2) Should I use a lubricant between the gasket and the cover?

You should only use the nylock nuts and washers when replacing the covers. Never use any lubricant between the gasket and the cover.

I have to wonder why everyone is so adamant about not using any sealers on the surface. Even when I polished my valve covers flat, used a new gasket, and torqued it to factory specs, it still dripped.
I could see the reasoning if they never leaked, but a lot of them do leak, so why not use Curil-T or Hylomar?

I upgraded to the silicon valve cover gaskets and have no leaks. Porsche did not use anything when they built the car. I would think you run the risk of introducing something that does not react well with the gasket.

sealants cause a big mess
I'm surprised they leaked after sanding!
