Just made my own bushings!

In one of last things in my front suspension rebuild, I just forgot order OEM rubber bushings for sway bar mountings in a-arm and on crossmember.

ONE rubber bushing costs about 215 SEK translates to circa 27-30 USD for only one!.

So...

I went to my local plastic manufacturer, who at this moment does gardening components, I bought something called acetal which is a "fat" plastic and can act as bearing and easy to machine to any shape.

Said and done, in 30-60 mins with standard tools I made 2 bushings for crossmember mountings.

Here is the pics.

The old ****ty bushing.

Me in action.

The finished product which fits surspringly well!

Beepbeep, I need your help!

pretty cool...did you have to "mix" anything to get the plastic or was it a block? an even cooler idea would be to make a mold and squeeze in some plastic mix before it hardens up.

I'm guessing it came in a block form. A lathe would come in real handy right about now.
Mattias, let us know how it works out after installed.

You can see the white circular block just behind my Black&Decker drill.

That´s the plastic acetal in raw form.

Cool.

you can buy flanged Delrin (acetal) bearings "off the shelf." Here's one (limited) source. (scroll down)

Or, if you want to get extra tricky, pick up some Teflon (PTFE) filled Delrin (acetal) . . .to provide better wear resistance and less friction than regular . Just don't ues all Teflon (PTFE) . . it will cold-flow (mush-out).
