What Can Be Removed? AC Frunk
 

‘79 SC..I’ve deleted all of the AC components elsewhere in the car. Is all of this necessary on the firewall for the fresh air blower? Or can a bunch of it be removed?

All of that is necessary, if you want to have fresh air ventilation, heat and defrost.

what about the stuff in the smugglers box..there is one relay I am not sure what it does?

I don’t know about a 79 but I just deleted all of the residual AC stuff from my 77. It had factory installed AC and previously I deleted all the hardware.

Almost all of the wiring in the smugglers box can be removed- in my car’s smugglers box there were two harnesses- one that ran to the fuse panel and one that ran into the center console, both can be removed as they serve no purpose now. Both are also separate from the main harness so they’re relatively easy to remove provided you have access to the bulkhead- not sure that you can remove the wiring with the blower in place.

I have a 77 as well, removed everything but had to check wiring to the main fuse panel from a really decrepit looking relay..almost seemed associated to the fuel pump?

i blanked off all the AC holes, in fact had a blank off panel for the main outlet from Byran at Achtung Kraft (he has on his website)

while in there I added a Y fitting to feed fresh air to center outlet

I removed everything in the box too and plugged the holes then put a 8 inch sub in place there.

If you’re pulling the AC system ( and I always suggest fix rather than remove) - leave the evap box in the smugglers box and the fan switch on the center console. That way you can get fresh air through the center/side vents on just fan power. This makes a difference even without the AC working. The weight is negligible and you don’t have to plug the holes in the firewall. You’ve also made it easier for the next owner to restore the AC, as everything but the evap box is easy enough to find.

i got mine that the PO had basically ripped out most of the AC s(no parts) and wires were cut/mangles..so i went the clean up route. Today I keep the spare tire compressor box in there but the idea of moving my amp intrigues me
