Front bumper part question...face bar support?
Taking apart the front end of y 86' Coupe.
Below is a quick photo of a part I am curious if I need to keep in/on the bumper. I believe it's called the 'face bar support' and I am curious if this needs to be reinstalled? It is only on the passenger side, as many of you probably know... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1646792254.jpg Maybe I am missing something, and it's late - just wondering what the part is there for? I am cleaning the bumper, valence, new lights, etc and will be putting back together tomorrow. I removed it to access the lights and just felt it is more "in the way of things" than functional - Thoughts? Erik |
When I reassembled my 82SC, I left the support out. I have yet to figure out why it's there other then some slight protection to the oil cooler. However the bottom of the oil cooler is wide open, so really makes no sense.

If I remember correctly from assembling my car, that's a US spec part. I left it off my car.
I jumped into the way back machine and travelled to 2014 where I found this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/804604-whats-purpose-bracket-front-bumper.html |

Many thanks to both of you. I figured it was for protection but hate to assume. Going to leave off and again, thank you! Erik |

On a side note, thanks for finding this thread, I was searching for part number, formal part name and results were limited. Next time just searching for Bumper Bracket and keeping it simple :) |
That's the beauty of this site. If you have a question about a 911, it has probably already been asked at least once. I don't know if you looked at who started that thread but it was me. That's why I knew it existed. I remember putting my car back together and wondering why that part was there.
