Painting original Fuchs to match new Maxilite 8’s
Evening all, I just received a beautiful pair of new Maxilite 8” wheels and they’re beautiful. I’d love to put a coat of paint on the original 7’s before I move them up front and I can’t imagine I’m the first person on the forum to do this. I’m hoping someone can offer some advice on what color paint to use. Pretty sure it’s a satin finish but has anyone painted their originals to try and match the Maxilite black? What did you use?
Thanks!

I am running Fuchs 16x7 on the front and Maxilite 16x8 on the rears. I refinished my Fuchs a few years ago using the following, they match pretty well. The link at the bottom was my post from many years ago.
Material: Rust-o-Leum Satin Black Outdoor Paint (OSH) Scotch Brite pads Simple green cleaner degreaser I washed the whole wheel with soap and water, then scrubbed with scotch brite pad to remove all the brake dust off both the inside and outside of the wheel. Checked wheel for cracks. The original black paint wasn't chipping just wearing away so the transition area between the paint and bare metal was quite smooth. Used simple green to completely scrub the area to be painted and the outer clear anodized rim. Blow dried with compressed air and then towel dried. Masked the edges using electrical tape, then masked the rest with newspaper and regular masking tape. Sprayed on 3 light coats, each coat about 2 hours apart and let dry overnight. That is it! Good luck, don't know how well the paint will hold up but the car is not a daily driver so it should hold up until better days. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/84645-fuchs-repaint.html

That's what I'm running on my SC too. I love the look. The Maxilites weigh a few grams more, but honestly I couldn't tell the difference. I went from heavy 17" wheels back to the 16" wheels and the car feels like it's just had a shot of adrenaline. |

I recommend SEM 39143 Trim Black aerosol paint. Great satin sheen, tough and durable, easy to apply (sag-resistant), and quick to dry. I have used them on my wheels, mirror backs, moldings, etc with near-perfect results.
No affiliation. |

I would suggest doing a test between Krylon matte and Kryon satin on anything with a smooth finish and compare them to the wheel first. These can be found at any True Value and Sherwin Williams paint stores also carry Krylon which I've found to spray better than SEM. Matt |
