Need some help trying finding original motor....

Hi everyone. So here is my situation. I purchased a 1978 911sc that does not have the original motor. I knew this when I purchased the car. But recently I contacted the garage that did the motor replacement. They think they have the original motor, but they have a couple in there shop. Its there anyway for me to track down the original Serial # for that motor based of my VIN #.. Long shot but would be great to get the motor back.

My VIN # 9118200270 if that helps at all. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Cheers,
D

EDIT: (My German isn't great) This will give you the range of numbers - which appear to start with 638 0001. I think Sportmatics (?) start with 638 9001. I think you need a Cert. of Authenticity to see the actual specific engine number.

I don't think the COA has SN information now. I believe I read on this forum somewhere that they will confirm the #'s if you have it, but they won't directly provide it.

Maybe Simons Simon's Porsche 911 SC Site

Thank you all for your help !! after a searching websites, I decided to give my local Porsche dealership a call. Turns out, the fellow I spoke with in parts, was a great guy and spent some time looking into it for me with VIN#.. And sure enough he was able to find it ... amazing. Thanks agin to all who chimed in. Now lets hope this they still have the original motor...

Cheers

I found that vinanalytics.com provides what looks a lot like the old COA for like $12 (no signatures or certification, though). I was pretty sure the engine and trans were original in my 85, and their report had numbers that matched. —Dave

Yes, thanks Dave for the lead on vinanalytics.com. I just bought the report for my 82 SC and it is definitely worth the 12.99. I will check the numbers and let you guys know what I find. Take care.
