I had the same problem on mine. I had forgotten to replace the spring that retract the cable (which I modified). Check the spring, it probably flew off and you forgot to put it back.

I fixed this same rpoblem on my friend's '70 the other day. When put together by the PO, the outside door handle was installed with the lock mechanism in the wrong place. It was all the way forward, and could only move a little.
I took the outside handle off and centered the lock portion of the latch mechanism inside the door. This put the door handle in between two tabs rather than behind the rear tab as the handle went back in. That is probably not real clear, but I hope it helps, as his would not lock (felt bound up) but the door opening trigger worked fine. |
