Commendation to Loren at Systems Consulting
 

Hello Pelicans,

Just wanted to post my wonderful dealings with Loren at Systems Consulting.

I had been chasing a slight hesitation in my 86 3.2 for quite some time. The car is up to date on all maintenance but I still kept getting a hesitation around 3000 - 3500 rpm and trying to chase down the cause was getting quite maddening. I must have read every thread on Pelicanparts for hesitations on 3.2s. :)

I had almost given up and when I called my shop, they informed me that they were booked and could not see me for another 4 weeks.

So I researched the archives and all the posts for DME related issues and decided to contact Loren after a peculiar dme relay failure and symptom.
Having owned my 86 for eleven years, I knew the DME hadn’t been touched during my time with the car.
When I called Loren, we talked about my car and symptoms and he was very helpful and went above and beyond what I was expecting in terms of customer service. Loren met me near my work during the week out of his busy schedule so that I could get him my DME to diagnose. Within a very short amount of time I was able to get a restored unit and plug it into my car. Once I put in Loren’s DME, my car fired right up and ran so smooth, the way a proper Porsche should!. The car runs so well now across the entire rpm range and the hesitation is completely gone. Loren had even offered to come out on a weekend to give me my original DME if I had wanted. It's this inclination and enthusiasm to do something beneficial in the community that keeps me here. I'm thrilled to be back on the road with his help.

I would like to express my gratitude for Loren’s amazing work, and his desire to help a fellow Pelican.

He is a true master of his craft.

Yep Loren is the boss. Took care of my CDI and went above and beyond during the process. There are other excellent guys doing similar work but my experience with Loren was beyond my expectations.

Unfortunately Loren got a lot of crap in the past from butt hurt pelicans due to his no BS, tell it like it is responses. He USED to post here a lot.

Loren is still around.........
 

Loren is still active in this forum under a different screen name. He has mellowed a lot and his knowledge is undeniably top notch. His posts now are less condescending but you could see between the lines the Loren’s trademark.

Funny, I saw some posts on a thread the other day in fact ...

He was quick to (accurately) pinpoint the source of my heating system failure on my '87 Targa. (Other posters on the thread chimed in arguing that his diagnosis was premature and probably incorrect - but it was not.)

Loren had always been a wealth of information. He is a moderator on another forum. He was always quick to post TSB or parts diagrams.

The guy is legendary, he was a great supplier of water cooled knowledge too.

Loren is the real deal! Should write a Porsche electronic diagnostics book for sure. He is the king of 80s tech!

So did he provide you with a refurbished DME? If so do you know what was wrong with the old one...or did he refurbish yours?

I received a reconditioned DME and the slight hesitation went away.

Just a quick update. I had an occasion where the car would jerk upon takeoff in first when cold. Loren came out and met up with me to check out my car. Did some tests and he was kind enough to show me to how to take apart my afm and adjust my mixture. We did a test drive afterwards and the car ran great again - no more backfiring at idle either. He was so helpful. Thanks Loren!
