Early longhood dash upgrade
Has anyone tried to upgrade an early longhood dash to a mid year with the center vent? I was considering this but was concerned about the amount of metal I needed to cut out and how this might weaken the dash and ...

So, bigger question...what would you do with the vent?
And....the longhoods are bringing such big money, I'm not sure I'd change something that involves cutting and...the dash isn't a bolt on bolt off affair.

I was thinking for fresh air. The car is apart and dash and glass out so that’s not the concern. I just didn’t want to cut the metal and see that it becomes a much bigger modification...

Want fresh air? Roll the windows down and open the quarter windows. Lots of fresh air.

The center vents on the later dash aren’t going to blow you away. Hardly worth updating a long hood dash, in my opinion.

I converted my 75 from a no-vent-dash to an SC style vent. Was pretty easy. I bought an ABS BRUM made dash top, had it covered in vinyl to math the door tops etc, bought the SC vent and the plastic manifold that feeds the vent on ebay....and the tough part for you......CUT THE HOLE IN THE METAL UNDER THE DASH. My car is a resurrection project from a car that was not restorable to original.....your milage may vary.
you might be better served to get different heater vents that bolt un under the dash. They are a 5 in swap each, and if you get ones that blow at you (like many use for AC etc) they will blow a surprising amount of air at you to help cool you, without cutting anything.

So I took the plunge and cut a rectangle in my dash. Really not hard. Thanks for all the suggestions and pictures Greg!

Paul, happy to help. I also took evan9eleven's suggestion and bought 2 of the Kool'n Ducts for the under dash ventilation. Just trying to get some fresh air moving in the old 911T cabin. Good luck with your project!
