Door Striker Mounting Plate Install Question
 

As part of my prep work for new paint on my '84 3.2L, I removed the passenger side door striker and then looked at the mounting plate through the wheel well. It was a rusty mess. I ordered this replacement from our host:

My question is how to install the new mounting plate. Is it simply a matter of putting it over the old plate and screwing in the striker plate screws? Or do I need to drill out the spot welds holding the remnants of the old plate on there, remove the old plate and weld in the new plate? I'd prefer not to weld it (as I'm still a novice at welding), but I'll do it if it's necessary (fortunately the welds would be hidden by the striker). Thanks!
