VIN digit codes
Hey guys,
Does anyone know what the 9th digit in the VIN is? There's a car I'm looking at that the digit doesn't match with the VIN's I have seen published (the car has an "X" for the 9th digit). I just looked up in a Porsche book and it said that it is a "test digit". Does anyone know what this means? Just want to make sure the car is on the up and up (U.S and all). Thanks, Shawn |
Shawn, for 1981 on (when Porsche changed to long VIN's) all cars have that x digit (also known as test digit).
The Porsche family tree book has all models from 1981 on with an x in the 9th digit (except for 1990 928 S4 and GT and 1992 968's). Hope this helps and that someone with (much) more knowledge will chime in. |
Ok, I didn't know that. Good news then...
Thanks! Shawn |
