AAR hose / air line leaking

Ive been chasing an air leak and narrowed it down to the AAR hard line that goes to the front of the air box. If I plug the end at the AAR, idle is low and all is good. AAR opens and closes with temp and 12V as it should. When I attach the line to the AAR idle is high and remains after the AAR has closed. Has anyone cut the rubber end off of the line and replaced it?

Cut the crimp off the rubber end and used some heater hose and all is good. No more air leak. Question for those in the know. When the AAR closes should no air pass through? Fully closed, mine is not air tight. Are there different models of the AAR?

I was having the same issue.

So I removed the complete (and heavy) AAR assembly from my 79 930 turbo motor and it starts great no matter how cold or hot. I just hold the accelerator pedal down a 1/2" while cranking.

I did that when I had the AAR line pugged to test for the leak. I had to feather the throttle for a little bit to get it to stay running but once it did it was fine. Its highly unlikely I will ever drive in the winter as we just use too much salt up here. Thats quickly becoming my plan A if I cant reduce the amount of air going through the valve when its closed.
