Classic Retrofit Gen 2 blower has arrived

Just came in today. I'll be doing an indepth comparison, but here is a teaser. The ac line connections are now on the drinker side.

EDIT:

For those that came for some numbers (note* numbers were taken on full battery with car off, numbers will only increase with car being on and driven)

Stock : 19mph single out
Gen1 : 25.3mph single out
Gen2 : 33.3mph single out

~32% increase in air coming out

Good to see it's in good hands. I'm sure you'll let us know how you compared them.

Nick, what has changed from Gen1 to Gen2? I haven't installed my Gen1 yet.

It is hard to not just jump on this and install now to get rid of some of the Octoberfest engineering under the hood. It also, over time, cushions the blow of the total cost for the total package with the household comptroller.

Looking forward to reading more about this...

Jerry - will hopefully fix the issues the preventing it from being the go to choice for AC. The 964s don't have this issue since they already have a more powerful blower. I took a vid of the speeds on my gen1 blower through the vents with various settings. Will do one more just out the side on the old and compare to the new. Stay tuned...

Thanks for doing this… I bought a complete system a couple years back and never installed it because there was so many pros and cons to the system. Hopefully this is the ticket to get it to the proper level for such a big investment

Not alot of detail on the website so will be interesting to see Nditiz's comparison.

Excited to see the differences. I've got my blower installed, but not the rest of the system. I consider the fan to be... "adequate". Not much more. If it's a marked improvement, I may need to upgrade.

In true Porsche fashion, it doesn't look much different to the last one ! We do listen to feedback so we have focused on air flow increase and some installation niggles:

1. The internal blower fan is now rated 502 CFM, up from 292 CFM (measured at a static pressure of 10mm H20)
2. The evaporator is latest tech 38mm core offering less air restriction for the same cooling capacity.
3. The expansion block (TXV) has been moved to vehicle RHS, making installation easier on LHD vehicles with brake boosters.
4. The drain tubes have been made more robust.
5. The lever on the front has been moved across as some early LHD vehicles have short cables which were struggling to reach.
6. A cap has been added to the top of the unit to allow easier access to the evaporator for cleaning/replacement.

The improvements look good. For those of us with a GEN1 unit still in the packing box, how do we get a GEN2 unit and what is the value of an un-installed GEN1 unit? Can a GEN1 unit be updated to GEN2?

For those us us without AC, is there a blower replacement option for the sake of the blower only?

Sure, you could buy and install this one. I have a feeling a lot of the Gen 1 blowers will be available after my review, which is still more powerful than the stock one.

Thé News gets better!

A personal appeal to any one who’s solved the condenser capacity problem. I can’t get past this issue on my SWB. I need to be satisfied with this before my much delayed install.

@Bill - not sure what you mean by condenser capacity problem. You are having trouble running 2? There are tons of options.

I have a Gen 1 system...can the Gen 2 blower fan be installed within the Gen 1 blower box or would I have to replace the whole blower box?

Afraid it's a complete swap out. Haven't heard of a retro fit.
