Rear sway bar mounting point upgrade suggestions
So on tuesday I'll be getting my freshly broken right rear swaybar mounting point repaired. My mechanic says there is an update for the repair and it will cost ~$250 for just the one mount.
I was just wondering if y'all have any input. like would this interfere with an adjustable swaybar in the future, or is there another upgrade I should consider while he's at it? |
banjomike,
Sorry to hear about the broken mount. It's not uncommon though. Thom (Widebody on this board) had the same problem on his car. Go to www.vintagebus.com , then select Porsche from the left menu. It's in the torsion bar article (scroll down to the bottom). Make sure you do both sides, the other one will probably break soon too, especially if you are going with a bigger bar. Elephant Racing sells reinforced sway bar mounts www.elephantracing.com/suspension/swaybars/swaybarmount.htm Good luck. SmileWavy |
That is WAY too much for that mount, unless it includes the labor. I think the dealer price is around $75. Grind the old one off, clean up the metal, weld in the new reinforced mount. I added a bracket off the torsion bar tube for triangulated rigidity. The only other weak point is to add some sheet metal to the portion the bolt goes through to prevent tear out. (You'd think some day they would make these things out of a chunk of solid steel!)
